As I contemplate a turn in direction for sharing my music, I have developed an idea that might help me solve a few problems with which I have wrestled. The first problem is the detached nature of how our technical world mediates the experience of art work between people. The second is that there is no way to find and receive the direct support from people who appreciate this work in a way that financially sustains its continued creation. Herewith is my first effort to solve this conundrum.
I have created a simplified, digital package that will guide people to create, in their own space and social community, an encounter with music. It is multi-dimensional and interactive. The best analog I have conceived is that it is like a meal kit sent to your home where you recreate an embodied gastronomic experience with the help of a recipe and the ingredients. This test version takes the form of a zip file archive of files that contain PDFs with instructions, host and participant guides for printing, guidance on how to set up and conduct a guided music experience, and high quality audio files.
The format of the experience is like a cocktail party for you and friends or family with some active listening, poetry, guided discussion, and more listening. My objective is that you create an intimate and powerful event to share in person with others that includes my works.
This solves the first problem of the impersonality of encountering my work by putting you and your relationships at the center of a shared encounter with the music. I am able to participate in a deep way by helping you carry the fuller context and intent of my work into the musical encounter. It also helps me as an artist nurture the experience of my music with the highest fidelity not only acoustically but artistically.
It solves the second problem if I am able to create a product or subscription that offers those who value my work a more direct way to financially support my creative output and help me share the costs of producing it. If this package helps people create powerful encounters amidst their own network of friends, and draws them out of the digital isolation to which our time is prone, then it will offer real value to supporters. I can scale and sell this offering to include physical mailings and richer embodied experiences. It provides me a potentially viable pathway to grow my musical art production in the years to come.
If you want to help me test this new experience, I would be grateful for your help. Simply message me:
and let me know you would like to do a test run of this. I will send you a zip file with everything you need to host an amazing evening with friends. I ask in return that you provide me feedback on the whole experience and areas that I need to enhance, remove, improve to make it something that I can start to sell. Your input will be invaluable. Thanks for reading and considering this!
